Wooden vs Plastic Fingerboards — Which One Should You Buy?

If you're shopping for your first fingerboard deck,
you'll quickly run into the same question every
beginner faces: wood or plastic? Both have their
place, but they ride very differently. Here's
everything you need to know before you buy.

## Plastic decks

Plastic fingerboard decks are usually the cheapest
option and the most common in starter kits or toy
store fingerboards.

**Pros:**
- Very affordable
- Lightweight
- Durable against drops and impacts

**Cons:**
- Less flex, which makes tricks feel stiffer
- Pop (the snap when you flick the board) feels
  less responsive
- Grip and control are generally lower

Plastic decks are fine for casual play, but most
riders outgrow them quickly once they start learning
real tricks.

## Wooden decks

Wooden fingerboard decks are built the same way as
real skateboard decks — multiple thin layers of wood
pressed and shaped into a curved deck with concave.

**Pros:**
- Natural flex and pop, much closer to real skating
- Better grip and control for technical tricks
- More satisfying feel and sound when riding
- Wide range of shapes, sizes and concave profiles

**Cons:**
- More expensive than plastic
- Slightly more fragile if dropped on hard edges

For anyone serious about fingerboarding — or anyone
who wants their setup to feel like a real mini
skateboard — wood is the way to go.

## So which one should you get?

If you're testing the waters and just want to mess
around occasionally, plastic works fine and won't
break the bank.

But if you're planning to actually learn tricks,
build combos, and get a setup that feels right under
your fingers — go wooden. The difference in flex,
pop and control is noticeable from the very first
flick.
